I do not recall doing much homework when I was growing up. Most certainly, I was not burdened with it in elementary school. It probably began in what is now called Middle School grades. I do recall wondering, after having spent the better part of the day in school, why the teachers thought that additional study at home would have any benefit?
To put it another way, if a teacher is unable to impart the basic knowledge required of a student during the many hours he spends in the classroom, why expect that same student to acquire that knowledge independently and, presumably, on his own time? Why must parents be pressed into service to do the teacher’s job? Why must otherwise good time spent with one’s family or just being a kid be wasted on the rigors of homework?
Did it build character? No. Did it help me to learn “time management” techniques? No. Did it develop in me a burning desire to learn more? No. "

Yes, many teachers are wonderful people with no ax to grind and no political agenda. As a matter of fact I have friends who are bleeding heart liberal teachers. But that’s beside the point. What parents need to come to grips with is the Leftist indoctrination going on right under their noses.
Wake up and smell the coffee, people!
If the Left has its way America’s kids will join the ranks of the godless liberals. The rude awakening will come when children who were raised in Christian homes start spewing pure socialist propaganda. Who knows? Your child could become the next Michael Moore or Cindy Sheehan. Does that thought warm the cockles of your heart?
In public schools the prevailing worldview is secular humanism. Schools have become hot beds of multiculturalism, political correctness, moral equivalency and sexual indoctrination. Consequently their hearts and minds have been taken captive by our culture of corruption."

School’s stealth attempt to show sexually explicit film thwarted by ADF
ADF attorney says showing video without parental consent violates North Carolina law
RALEIGH, N.C. — School officials in Raleigh have refrained from showing a sexually explicit film to schoolchildren without the knowledge and permission of their parents after involvement from an attorney with the Alliance Defense Fund. The film contains sexually explicit scenes, including ones that feature homosexual behavior.
“Schools should be required to follow the law. And the law says schools must notify parents and get their authorization before teaching sexually-oriented material,” said ADF Senior Legal Counsel Mike Johnson. “School officials may have tried to push this sexually explicit video onto these children without their parents’ knowledge, but so far we’ve been able to hold them accountable to North Carolina statutes protecting families.”
Officials at the Governor’s School in Raleigh advertised the sexually explicit film American History X on its calendar, describing it as an installment of a “Race and Film” series. In spite of repeated assurances by school officials that parents would be notified regarding any sexually-oriented material presented to students, the school did not notify or get permission from parents before attempting to show American History X.

This is no longer a nation where kids can be kids anymore. The secular humanists have seen to that. Children have been robbed of their innocence because liberals see them as fair game in their struggle to promote their anti-God agenda. Thanks to groups like the ACLU and People for the American Way, youngsters are literally inundated with sex and violence everywhere they turn. The Barbarians are no longer at the door; they’ve kicked it down and have taken over the house.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The state Education Oversight Committee approved high school biology standards Monday that require students to "critically analyze aspects of evolutionary theory."
The wording of standards had caused an impasse between the committee and the state Board of Education.
Education Board members and state Education Superintendent Inez Tenenbaum worried the change would open the door to teaching alternative theories such as intelligent design.
Under the wording approved Monday, students would have to understand how scientists use data to critically analyze the theory.

The president's recent call for immigrants to learn English is a good thing. It is also somewhat amusing..... because one can only pray to God that impressionable illegal aliens do NOT use our president as a model for English articulation.
Actually, even though George Bush is perhaps the worstest* communicator in our history, he is, in fact, trilingual and proficient in:
Mexican - Spanish - Texan. Otherwise known as pidgin English with a drawl.
Ultimately, Mr. Bush's Spanish-Mexican language skills may benefit him if, God forbid, his immigration ideas become law.
How so? Because if the nation is BUSHwacked on this issue again, illegal aliens from Mexico will soon outnumber US citizens.... on the American side on the border.
At that happy day, at least GW will be able to remind the millions of squatters he is so fond of that they are a decent, good-hearted, hard-working majority.
In Spanish-Mexican----or depending on the education level of his audience, Mexican-Spanish!
America will thus die, Hispanically Speaking.

JOHN W LILLPOP While the leftist American media anxiously await an indictment of Karl Rove---an indictment that may not even exist--- a violent, angry black liberal caught attacking a police person has all but vanished from public scrutiny. I refer, of course, to the lovable Cynthia McKinney (Democrat-GA) who made national headlines on March 29, 2006 when she allegedly slugged a capitol Hill Police Officer, an act supposedly caught on video. McKinney stayed in the limelight for a couple of weeks by crying 'Racism!' at the top of her lungs, until Nancy Pelosi and a few other liberals told McKinney how foolish she sounded. Imagine being told by an airhead like Nancy Pelosi that you sound foolish! In any event, McKinney has been shoved off the front pages by wild speculation about Karl Rove who, if he did in fact commit a crime, was not stupid enough to do it before a live camera in the nation's capital. Come on media! Get on the ball and find out why the Cynthia McKinney story is being covered up. Otherwise, we might think there is a left-wing liberal bias in the media!

| Marine Grad Stands On Sidelines During Ceremony |

May 13, 2006 Holdenville (AP) - A U-S Marine graduates from Holdenville High School, but isn't able to walk across the stage with his fellow graduates.
During last night's ceremony, Michael Lueking stood in the stands in his dress blues uniform. School officials had told Lueking he wouldn't be able to participate in the ceremony if he refused to wear the school's standard royal blue cap and gown.
Lueking finished high school a semester early so he could fulfill his longtime dream of joining the Marines. He graduated from the 13-week Marine boot camp on May 5th, in time to be home for his high school graduation.
Holdenville Superintendent Shellie Gammill says she couldn't bend the policy or else exceptions would have to be made for other students. http://www.ktul.com/news/stories/0506/327530.html

The nation's television screens many days recently have been
filled with scenes of huge crowds carrying the colorful green and
red flag of Mexico viewers could well have thought it was a
national holiday in Mexico City.
It was instead, downtown Los Angeles, Calif., although the scene
was recreated in numerous other cities around the country with
substantial Mexican populations. Hordes of Mexican expatriates,
many here illegally, were protesting the very U.S. immigration
laws they were violating with impunity. They found it offensive
and a violation of their rights that the U.S. dared to have
immigration laws to begin with.
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa mounted the podium, but
any hopes that he would quiet the crowds and defend the law were
soon dashed. Villaraigosa, himself, has spent a lifetime opposing
U.S. immigration law.
For law-abiding Americans without knowledge of the dark side of
our current illegal immigration crisis, all this is unfathomable.
For those who know the truth about the "La Raza"
movement, these demonstrations were a prophecy fulfilled.
It is past time for all Americans to know what is at the root of
this outrageous behavior, and the extent to which the nation is
at risk because of "La Raza" -- The Race.
There are many immigrant groups joined in the overall "La
Raza" movement. The most prominent and mainstream
organization is the National Council de La Raza -- the Council of
"The Race".
To most of the mainstream media, most members of Congress, and
even many of their own members, the National Council of La Raza
is no more than a Hispanic Rotary Club.
But the National Council of La Raza succeeded in raking in over
$15.2 million in federal grants last year alone, of which $7.9
million was in U.S. Department of Education grants for Charter
Schools, and undisclosed amounts were for get-out-the-vote
efforts supporting La Raza political positions.

When liberal-progressives talk about 'learning to think,' they really are speaking of absorbing PC attitudes. Denigrating 'teaching to the test' is to believe that learning facts and mastering mathematics diminishes the capabilities of the human mind.
Our school system since the late 1960s has become more a political indoctrination regime than an educational one. It's the American version of Communist China's Red Guards compelling everyone to order his daily life by the quotations in Chairman Mao's Little Red Book.
Let's start by saying that the Federal government should stay out of education altogether, because it opens the door to an unconstitutional establishment of religion, secular or Judeo-Christian. No Child Left Behind is good in requiring educational standards, bad in perpetuating the patently false idea that spending more money will raise educational standards.
Teachers' unions oppose the No Child Left Behind act, because it's easy to read liberal fairy tales to students, but difficult to teach them useful knowledge. Roughly 70 percent of union delegates routinely reject proposals to base teacher compensation on teaching results, a horrifying prospect under No Child Left Behind.
