| Global Warming Lies Create a Climate of Crisis |
|
mediamaven writes "
By Alan Caruba
The United Nations conference in Bali, attended by some 10,000 participants and observers, is likely to make future generations conclude that ours was deranged to be discussing how humans could have any affect whatever on the climate. They will, in retrospect, agree that the global warming theory was a lie whose agenda was to retard anything that might extend and enhance life on earth. The Protocol is based entirely on a lie that predicts dramatic and imminent global warming. Global warmers insist that carbon dioxide emissions must be reduced, but carbon dioxide does not cause climate change. Climatologists will tell you that any rise in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere does not precede, but follows warming cycles. The science is well known, but hucksters like the odious Al Gore and those behind the original Kyoto Protocol, with the media as accessories, have created a climate of crisis. It’s a very good thing that our Senate voted unanimously in 1997 against binding America to the United Nations Kyoto Protocol on Climate Control and that both the Clinton and Bush Administrations refused to act on the proposed limits. The reason for the Senate resolution was to avoid “serious harm to the economy of the United States.” "

| The Great Cap-and-Trade Scam |
|
mediamaven writes "
By Alan Caruba Of all the crazed global warming proposals being put forth by the new masters of Congress, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Barbara Boxer, chairperson of the Public Works Committee, by far the worst would be a mandated cap-and-trade program that would supposedly offset carbon dioxide emissions.
This program is horrid on several counts. First, there is not a scintilla of scientific evidence—other than disputed and dubious computer models—to suggest that any significant global warming is occurring. The warming and cooling of the Earth is an entirely natural phenomenon.
Second, carbon dioxide (CO2) plays only a minor role as a so-called greenhouse gas. The predominant greenhouse gas is water vapor produced by the world’s oceans. The Earth has been warming since the last Ice Age and, even if a mild warming were to occur, the only result would be an extended period to grow more crops and to enhance the growth of the world’s forests that generate the oxygen on which all humans depend for life.
Third, the notion that man-made CO2 emissions—the result of industrial activity, the use of cars and trucks for transportation, and a host of other things humans do—is a major contributor to “climate change” is almost too silly to believe. Recently, the European Uni0n identified cow and sheep burping as an even greater threat than human activity, but ruminants have been doing this long before human civilization began."

What does it really stand for?"

Constituency Aborted With the Supreme Court taking up Planned Parenthoods appeal of the courts validation of the Partial Birth Abortion Act of 2003 and the upcoming 2008 Presidential Election, I got to thinking how Democrats, who so vehemently support a woman’s right to choose, are victims of their own warped ideology. As of 2008 anyone born before 1990 will be old enough to vote. This also means that anyone unfortunate enough to have their life interrupted by an abortionist before their birth day is old enough to vote also. I reviewed the CDC’s numbers on abortion and found that between 1970 and 1990 22,689,118 fetuses were aborted. That would have been 22,689,118 voters between the ages of 18 and 38."

| Supreme Court's Bad Science and Bad Decision |
|
mediamaven writes "
By Alan Caruba In March of 1857, in the famed Dred Scott decision, the United States Supreme Court declared that all blacks, slaves as well as free, were not and could never become citizens of the United States. It also declared that the 1820 Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional, thus permitting slavery in all territories and future, new States. By 1861 the United States was fighting a Civil War. Sometimes the Supreme Court makes spectacularly bad decisions and this was manifest on April 2 when five of its nine members yielded to the specious argument by twelve States and several environmental organizations that the science of “global warming” was so conclusive that it could declare that carbon dioxide (CO2) should be regulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as “a pollutant.” CO2 is not a pollutant. It exists in the earth’s atmosphere and every blade of grass and every great tree is utterly dependent upon it. In that regard, other than the oxygen on which all living creatures depend, CO2 is the second most essential gas for its ability to harness the energy of the sun and, through photosynthesis, maintain every form of vegetation on earth. The court’s ruling, however, insures that the cost of every automobile, truck and tractor in America is likely to increase for no good reason. The many mandated formulations of gasoline that are part of its cost might also increase."

| The Enlightenment: Anglo-American (Genesis) vs. Franco-Germanic (Anti-Genesis) |
|
LindaKimball writes "
“9th Circuit Endorses Censoring Christians,” ruling declares ‘family values,’ ‘natural family,’ and ‘marriage’ constitutes hate speech. (WorldNetDaily, 3/8/07) “Walter Cronkite Endorses Campaign to Force Christianity Out of US Public Life,” LifeSiteNews, 2/28/07, Gudrun Schultz) These are but two examples out of thousands that expose the Left’s brazenly relentless assault against America’s founding Christian-Judeo worldview and traditional culture. All too many Americans allow these attacks to occur because on one hand, they’ve been dumbed-down and deceived by the Leftist controlled education establishment and media, while on the other hand, they’ve been taken in by a myth.
The myth assures Americans that there was but one Enlightenment school of thought, that it is synonymous with American ideals and progress, and that religion---particularly Christianity---must be kept strictly separate from the state. Not only is all of this untrue, but these notions are invidious alien transplants to our shores.
In fact, a schism occurred among Enlightenment thinkers from which emerged two distinct and antithetical schools of thought. For ease of identification, Balint Vazsonyi refers to them in his book, “America’s 30 Years War” as the Anglo-American and the Franco-Germanic."

| Why Hybrid Cars Aren't Selling Well |
|
mediamaven writes "
by Alan Caruba An article in the March 19 issue of Business Week magazine caught my eye. “Why Hybrids are Such a Hard Sell” was the topic and reporter David Welch began by writing, “Given all the buzz about hybrids, not to mention the greening of the citizenry, you’d think they would be easy to sell. They’re not.” The sale of hybrid automobiles constitutes an anemic 1.8% of all vehicle sales, down from a peak of 2.1% in October 2006. I would suggest that Americans aren’t all that “green” despite the endless print and broadcast media harangues that our wonderful lifestyles are to blame for everything from hurricanes to frizzy hair. Those who have tried to be green have found that there are considerable additional costs involved and this has proven particularly true of hybrid cars that include batteries to permit electricity to partially replace the use of gasoline. | Times Supports Abstract Savagery |
|
tebrewton writes "by Thomas E. Brewton
New York Times editorialists equate morality with pagan environmental worship, doing so in the name of an abstraction called "the planet."
"Whether or not you agree with [the conservative Christian wing of the Republican Party] about, say, homosexuality and abortion — and we emphatically do not — it is antiquated to limit the definition of morality to the way humans behave among humans.
"Those days have been over ever since it became apparent that humans — busy thinking only about their own lives — had the power to destroy huge numbers of species, whole landscapes of habitat and, in fact, the balance of life on earth. The greatest moral issue of our time is our responsibility to the planet and to all its inhabitants."
Defining morality as "the way humans behave among humans" is, of course, the Judeo-Christian foundation of Western civilization. Civilization itself is a word meaning the rules of civility and lawful conduct within a city (Latin, civitas).
For Progressivist citizens of the world, such a definition is too limiting. Times editorialists need the universalism, the abstraction, of the Socialist Internationals. They want the stirring rhetoric of a Karl Marx exhorting the "workers of the world" to rise up and overthrow civilization. "

| The New Soviet Uni0n: America and the West |
|
LindaKimball writes "

In “The Historical Roots of ‘Political Correctness,’ author Raymond V. Raehn observed that America is “dominated by an alien system of beliefs, attitudes, and values that we have come to know as ‘Political Correctness.’ Political Correctness seeks to impose a uniformity of thought and behavior on all Americans and is therefore totalitarian in nature. Its roots lie in a version of Marxism which seeks a radical inversion of the traditional culture in order to create a social revolution.” (www.freecongress.org) Political Correctness and Multiculturalism are a modified version of Marxism formulated by the Frankfurt School. The new version is simply Marxism translated from economic terms into cultural terms. The proletariat is no longer the working class but cultural fringe elements such as man-hating females, members of the criminal element, and the ‘sexually confused,’ known in Marxist-speak as the ‘gay subspecies.’ The correct label for this modified version is Cultural Marxism. Behind radical feminism, same-sex marriage, the androgyny theme, gay pride, and the overall pattern of degeneration at all levels of society throughout America and the West lies a revamped international Communist revolution. Being anti-Stalinist it shuns the Communist label and instead disguises itself as Multiculturalism and Political Correctness.
Separation of church and state, pornography, easy divorce, open borders, extreme sex education, abortion, gay pride, same-sex marriage, androgyny, political correctness, speech codes, the wreckage of the traditional family, and hate crime laws---all were imported to the Christian West from the pre-Stalinist Soviet Uni0n. We did not recognize it as Communism because we believed Stalin’s modified version to be the original communism."

| Strangling the Energy Baby |
|
Anon... writes "
By Alan Caruba There is an effort in Congress—mostly thanks to the Democrat leadership—to strangle the energy baby in the cradle. Why they and some addled Republicans would want to do this defies an answer beyond the hatred environmentalists have for all forms of energy other than windmills, solar panels, and crops which should be eaten instead of poured into one’s gas tank. Let’s start by understanding there are now three hundred million Americans. More people increase the need for more electricity. America currently must generate 15.43 trillion kilowatts of electricity and is in immediate need of more. This is why, following every winter storm, the very first piece of news reported is how many people are without electricity. To put it another way, no electricity means an instant return to the days when heat come exclusively from a fireplace or wood-burning stove. Light came from candles or lanterns burning whale oil. "
